Mantels, bannisters and more . . .
|
|
More ideas to deck the house this holiday season. Instead of a major overhaul, keep things simple. Check your attics, closets and garages to take stock of what holiday fare you already have and find new ways to integrate these items into your room design. And remember, less is always best.

Star-Spangled Christmas Tree
If you want to show your true patriotic colors, this is the tree for you. Start by setting up a lighted spiral tree. Then from the bottom up, tightly wrap the tree with 14 yards of inexpensive white tulle. Tuck in the ends. Then take two yards of blue tulle and two yards of red tulle and wrap them around the tree. Now wrap the tree with star garland. For further decoration, you can place poinsettia places around the base of the tree.

Mantel magic |

Brighten the bannister |
A cedar rope of garland, lights, ornaments and pine cones punch up
the mantel for the holidays. Instead of taking down our everyday accessories,
we added just a few items for the holidays. First, we placed the garland
along the mantel, weaved a string of lights through it, then scattered about
scented pine cones and fruit ornaments. |
Give a bold stroke to your bannister with swags of garland cascading your stairway. Secure your garland with rope or wire, then trim it with lights and ornaments. Bows and ribbons along the swoops make for a dramatic statement. Tip: Use floral wire to attach bows and ornaments to the garland. If you’re using real roping, mist it from time to time to keep it fresh looking and release the pine scent. |
