Awash in color |

Brighten your seasonal tablescapes with dishes, fabrics and accessories bathed in color. There's no better way to set the mood, heighten the spirit and keep the party hopping, whether you're inside or out. Here are three tablescapes we've created to get you started.
| Bold Buffet |
Our buffet shows off the colors and foods of Mexico. Fiestaware dishes are the perfect backdrop for salsas, tortillas and other Mexican fare. The centerpiece of this tablescape is the potted kalanchoe. To give the buffet some height and drama, we placed the plant on top of a large bowl that was placed upside down. To create the other "hills and valleys" on the table, we used boxes and other dishes for varying heights. Once they're in place, we covered them all with a white tablecloth. If you don't have a large enough tablecloth to cover up the "mechanics," use a white sheet.

Next, we placed our kalanchoe on the table and placed small green plants and other serving dishes around the centerpiece. Votives were then set about to add some twinkle to the table. To finish off the look, tortilla chips and shells were scatted about to "fill in" bare areas, so our buffet looks lush.

| Mediterranean Magic |
A touch of Italy, Greece and the south of France brings out the romance at this table. Strokes of orange, yellow and blue conjure up the seaside. Instead of paper plates and the like, we mixed and matched ceramic dishes, accenting them with gold-laced crystal flutes. Instead of a tablecloth for this space we used a batik fabric that complements our dishes for the backdrop. Pink, orange and aqua tulle adorns our umbrella pole. A string of lights wrapped around the tulle would be the piece de resistance for an evening occasion.

| Tropical Tones |
Ya mon! Turn up the reggae and Afro-Caribbean beats, and bring on the jerk. Accents from Africa and the Caribbean will get this party started. Live flowers, set on a box, are the focal point of the table. The box is disguised with fabric and greens. Inexpensive bamboo mats serve as placemats and a different color dish is used for each guest. In the center of each plate is a napkin and service pieces held together with a sunflower tie. African artifacts and other container flowers are placed about the perimeter to further the ambience.
