Caribbean Cooler
You don't have to be in Bermuda, St. Thomas, or Jamaica to enjoy a little island flavor! Simply set the mood for your next brunch or dinner outdoors, surrounded by nature and the tropics. There's nothing like the tropics - the palm trees, bright colors and bold flowers - to add some spice and sizzle to your summer entertaining.
Bring your indoor tropical plants outdoors for this festive occasion. Look to your backyard for flowers to dress your table. Wrap a container with fabric and place your freshly cut flowers in it. Keep it simple. Drape your table with fabric instead of a formal tablecloth to give it more spirit, more verve. Extend the magic by using a small fabric pocket for your flatware. Tie the pocket with a vine from your garden, add a bright colored flower and there you have it, a perfect finishing touch.

The fabrics don't have to match, it's more carefree if they don't but they should contain one common color or pattern. Even the plates and other service ware don't have to be the same, mix and match is best! Sprinkle some petals and blooms about for a mid-morning brunch, and don't forget to tie a flower or two around the coffee pot and glasses for extra perk and bubble. |
| For an exotic touch, use Batik fabric and tastefully display African masks, maracas or other artifacts you have in your home, around the table. To really make a splash, use your outdoor birdbath to float freshly cut flowers in. What a fabulous backdrop for your Caribbean affair.
After the brunch, since the table is already set, why not continue the mood? and enjoy a romantic dinner under the stars by adding candles and other nightlights for a perfect sunset dinner. |
