Spring Wreath
This season's
ethnicHome.com Magazine features a "Spring Wreath" that will
be fun to make and will get you a lot of compliments. Try
making this and you might feel rejuvenated!

The wreath you see is a beginner project. It is a celebration
of new beginnings with green Ivy garlands, eucalyptus, and
brightly colored silk and dried flowers. I accented this one
with an African maraca.
To make
the "Spring Wreath" you will need:
birchwood wreath form
one artificial green ivy garland
two stems of natural dried or artificial green eucalyptus
a mixture of bright, vivid silk flowers (use whatever kind
you like)
light-weight florist's wire
garden shears or heavy duty, all-purpose scissors
a small, African artifact (something small enough and light
enough to fit in the wreath)
A mini glue gun and glue sticks (for back up purposes)
a wreath hanger (You can buy one at any floral or craft store
for under $2.00.) While I am designing my wreath I like to
place it on a wreath hanger to watch the wreath come to life
and check for holes or gaps.
Now, let's
begin:
To fashion
this wreath, begin with your birchwood wreath form. Select
a 24-, 30-, or 36-inch diameter depending upon the size of
the door or wall space where you will be displaying your completed
masterpiece.
Wrap the
green ivy garland into the wreath in a circular direction,
attaching with wire.
Tuck your
floral stems in one at a time. Remember to snip the stems
so they slide easily into the branches of the birchwood. It
shouldn't be necessary to wire the stems in place.
Now, tuck
the eucalyptus stems among the branches.
Affix
your African artifact in a prominent position. A little hint:
try two or three different places, then step back and look
at the wreath. When it looks just right, secure the artifact
with wire, if necessary.
